Seeing as he doesn't have the little mouse icon telling us he owns it, I feel his title is confusing for us steam users. I don't believe he means using the 'non-steam version' like we have in our game library, I think he means he has a retail or other copy of the game. Regardless, OP Relic shut down their online servers for CoH 1, and moved to CoH2.
Steam took over for them to keep the game alive and runs servers via steam. You can't play multiplayer as normal without steam's version. Should you not wish to purchase Steam's version, you might be able to make use of a tunneling program like hamachi to play via LAN connection, but its hard to say how that'd turn out. Put simply, the game is in a sad state of dying.
Steam is keeping it on life support for those who just can't say goodbye, but in all sense and purpose, it might as well be dead. (I still love it, but I can get all I need out of it offline anyways). The game is 7-8 years old. How many other games of that age gets ANY support?
I'd say it is far from dead and it is still way better than CoH 2. There is still an active mod community that keeps great mods such as Blitzkrieg alive and SEGA actually update the base game now and then. Sure, some features are broken but nothing that affects gameplay is. Also, Relic didn't shut any servers down. The decision was made by Ubisoft since they owned the now dead Quazal servers. I actually think it's great that SEGA stepped in when THQ crashed and then stepped in again when Ubisoft shut down the Quazal servers.
I own several titles on disc where multiplayer is long gone. Here, SEGA offers an alternative. If you can't use your old game keys, buy the New Steam Version on a sale for less than 5 Euros. Problem solved. Originally posted by:The game is 7-8 years old. How many other games of that age gets ANY support? I'd say it is far from dead and it is still way better than CoH 2.

Hi again everyone! Just to avoid any confusion from the get-go: yes, it's been over five (!) months since version 1.019 went live. And no, this isn't in regards to a new patch. There are two reasons for this announcement:.
Firstly: As some of you might already be aware, Modern Combat has now been Greenlit on Steam via the Company of Heroes Mod Initiative, and will soon be downloadable just like any other Steam game (a huge thankyou to SgtConti for setting everything up!). This will hopefully sort out 90% of all issues that people report regarding installation, particularly BAT file issues, directory misunderstandings and download interruptions. It will also make Modern Combat accessible to the entire Steam community (and hopefully give the mod's dwindling playerbase a shot in the arm). There are several major obstacles that need to be addressed before the release can go ahead, but if all goes to plan (which it almost never does) then expect our Steam debut in approximately two weeks! Beta version of the Modern Combat Steam page.
Secondly: Several times over the past few months I've mentioned a proposed rework of Modern Combat. After many months of personal experimentation behind the scenes, I think it's time to elaborate. The plan is to create - for all intents and purposes - a Modern Combat v2.0 for CoH1. This rework would involve a complete overhaul of factions, units and doctrines, all with the intent of:. Making Modern Combat truly stand out, and less of a stylistic imitation of the original CoH (with the implementation of unique game mechanics entirely new to CoH modding). Breathing new life into the mod (taking the familiar and making it fresh again), as well as making a few select additions to the rosters of both factions.
This would be an extremely efficient way to make full use of our existing assets whilst also giving the playerbase something novel to re-explore. Merging the US Army and Marine Corps into a single US faction (no more half-arsed standalone USMC faction), and then offering players the use of both factions (US and China) regardless of the DLC they own (or don't own).
Taking the opportunity to incorporate long-requested additions and weed out the most unpopular elements of the mod. I've already created a private demo build of the rework, and following small-scale internal testing have received some encouraging feedback, particularly concerning the unit overhauls and new game mechanics. Experimental Air Superiority doctrine (as of five months ago). Read the description for details. However It's currently a solo project, with vital team-members like Darkbladecr inundated at university and DMz and Beefy working tirelessly (not punny?) over at Eastern Front for the past few months. Very little can be done in the realm of 3D modelling and animating until/unless these team-members are able to return.
Nevertheless, should this rework end up going ahead as planned, I'm eager to involve the fans moreso than we did during the initial release of Modern Combat in March 2012. If the community seems interested enough in such a project then I'll upload the current faction design documents for everyone to scrutinise and discuss. All the best! Spoon, on behalf of the Modern Combat team. I think this mod is dead. They're always saying that they will release the new update. But since 2017 no update.
And 2019 is about to come. I mean 2 years guys come on.
I don't believe this guys anymore. There is only 1 guy working for The End of Days mod(not for Company of Heroes but for similar game). And he releases new updates every 5-6 month. How difficult it could be releasing an update for almost 2 years??? It's unbelievable lol Those who are still checking this page; good luck. I don't think they will release some kind of update. So Bye +5 votes.
I have discovered some things needs to be fixed. Can you please fix these; 1- When I play as PLA, on the tactical map(in which you get by pressing Tab) my HQ is showing up with US Flag. And the US HQ is showing up by PLA flag. I don't know if its right to call as a flag but the 'Star'.
2- PLA infantry is SO WEAK! So there are 2 infantry as I see. Milita which is rookie.
And Regulars are more professional (As I understand). But even my covered Regulars can't deal with US Rifle mans. I'm not even talking about US Special Forces loll. And about Militas; I think they're just waste of manpower:). I prefer Engineers rather than Militas. PLA Engineers are okay.
They're 3 man squad. But can deal with 4 man US Engineer squad. So I have no problem there. But please make some changes with PLA infantry:) 3- PLA talking better English than me loll. Please let them speak with Chineese even if we don't understand what they say, it would be cool:) Here I did make a video where I play as PLA against Expert USA(recorded with 8X so its 16 minute): You can see my HQ is showing up as US 'Star?' You can see US Rifle man(which should be equal to Milita) beats my best infantry unit(Regulars) And ofcourse the language loll Other than that; T H I S M O D I S A M A Z I N G!:) +1 vote.
